1. Accessing Your Stripe Dashboard
Sign in at dashboard.stripe.com using the email address associated with your account. From there, the full navigation menu on the left side gives you access to all reporting tools.
- First time logging in? Follow the setup link sent to your email when our platform onboarded you.
- Multi-user access: You can invite team members (e.g., accountants, finance staff) to your account with specific roles under Settings → Team and security. Role options include Administrator, Developer, Analyst, and Support.
- Mobile access: The Stripe Dashboard is available as a mobile app for iOS and Android, with core payment and balance information accessible on the go.
2. Dashboard Home — Your Financial Snapshot
The Dashboard Home is the first screen after login. It gives you a real-time, high-level view of your account's financial performance without needing to navigate to individual reports.
What you'll see
- Gross Volume chart — Your total payment volume over a selectable period (today, 7 days, 28 days, or custom). Toggle between different time intervals.
- Net Volume chart — Your volume after refunds and disputes, giving a truer picture of revenue retained.
- Successful payments count — Total number of successful charges in the selected period.
- Balance summary widget — Your current available and pending balance, with a link to initiate payouts.
- Recent failed payments — A quick-reference list of recent payment failures to monitor conversion issues.
- Top customers — Your highest-value customers in the selected time period.
How to use it
Use the Home screen for a daily business health check. You can spot revenue trends, see if a payout is in progress, and quickly identify payment failures worth investigating. Click any metric or chart segment to drill through to the underlying transaction list.
3. Balance & Payouts
Navigate to Balance in the left-hand sidebar to see a detailed breakdown of your funds and how they move from Stripe to your bank account.
Balance breakdown
- Available balance — Funds cleared and ready to pay out to your bank account. Stripe's standard settlement timeline is typically T+2 business days for card payments, but your exact timing is configured by our platform.
- Pending balance — Funds from recent transactions still within the settlement window, not yet eligible for payout.
- In transit to bank — Funds already initiated for payout and currently moving to your bank — typically visible on your bank statement within 1–2 business days.
- Reserved funds — If applicable, Stripe may hold a portion of funds in reserve as a risk management measure. These are visible here and will be released per the reserve terms.
Payout management
Depending on how our platform has configured your account, you may have access to the following payout controls:
- Payout schedule — View or update your automatic payout frequency: daily, weekly, or monthly. Go to Settings → Bank accounts and scheduling.
- Manual payouts — Click Pay out funds from the Balance page to initiate an immediate payout of your available balance at any time.
- Instant Payouts — If enabled, Instant Payouts transfer available funds to an eligible debit card within 30 minutes, for a small per-payout fee. Look for the Instant payout option on the Balance page.
- Bank account management — Add or update the bank account that receives your payouts via Settings → Bank accounts and scheduling.
Balance transactions list
Scroll down within the Balance page to see a full chronological list of every balance transaction — charges, refunds, payouts, fees, adjustments, and transfers. Click any entry to see its complete detail, including the gross amount, Stripe fee, and net amount contributed to your balance. You can also export this list directly from here.
4. Payments
The Payments section is your comprehensive transaction ledger — a searchable, filterable, exportable record of every charge processed through your account.
Payment detail view
Click any payment to open its detail page. You will find:
- Amount, currency & status — Gross charge amount, the Stripe fee applied (at our platform's negotiated buy-rate), and the net amount credited to your balance.
- Payment method — Card type, last four digits, issuing bank, and payment method used (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, PayTo, etc.).
- Customer details — Name, email, and Customer ID (where captured).
- Timeline — A full event log for the payment: created, authorised, captured, any refund events, and dispute events if applicable.
- Associated payout — Direct link to the payout batch this payment was included in.
- Metadata — Any custom key-value metadata attached to the payment by our platform.
Filtering & searching payments
- Use the search bar at the top of the Payments list to find a payment by customer name, email, card number (last 4 digits), payment ID, or description.
- Use Filters to narrow by: date range, payment status (Succeeded / Refunded / Disputed / Failed), payment method type, currency, and amount range.
- Sort the list by Amount or Date to quickly find high-value or recent transactions.
Refunds
From any successful payment's detail page, click Refund to issue a full or partial refund. The refund is immediately credited to the customer's original payment method and deducted from your Stripe balance. Partial refunds can be issued multiple times up to the original charge amount.
Disputes
When a customer disputes a charge with their bank, it appears as a Dispute in Stripe. Disputes can be found:
- Under Payments → Disputes in the left sidebar
- As a banner within the original payment's detail page
Each dispute shows the reason, deadline to respond, the disputed amount held from your balance, and a form to submit your evidence. Stripe provides a response template — fill it in with supporting documentation (receipts, delivery confirmations, communications) and submit before the deadline. You can track dispute outcomes (Won / Lost / Under Review) from the Disputes page.
Exporting payment data
Click the Export button (top right of the Payments list) to download a CSV of your filtered payment history. The export respects any active filters, so you can pull exactly the date range, status, or currency subset you need.
5. Financial Reports
Navigate to Reports in the left sidebar to access Stripe's structured financial reports. These are the backbone of your accounting and reconciliation workflows. All reports support CSV export (and PDF for summary views), date-range selection, and currency filtering.

5.1 Balance Summary Report
The Balance Summary shows your opening balance, all activity categories that affected your balance, and your closing balance for a selected period. Think of it as a bank statement summary from Stripe. You can find it under Reports → Balance Summary.
- Activity categories include: Charges, Refunds, Disputes, Payouts, Payout failures, Stripe fees, Adjustments, and Transfers.
- Select any date range — daily, weekly, monthly, or custom.
- Switch currency if you process in multiple currencies, or select All currencies to get a multi-currency export.
- Drill down from any category total to view the individual transactions that make up that amount.
- Export as CSV (full transaction detail) or PDF (summary view, up to 5,000 rows).
5.2 Balance Change from Activity — Itemized Report
The Balance Change from Activity (Itemized) report provides a row-by-row list of every balance transaction in a date range. This is the transaction-level detail you need to feed data into your accounting software or ERP system.
Each row includes:
- Transaction ID, reporting category, and description
- Gross amount, fee, and net amount (all in your account currency)
- Customer ID and customer-facing description (where available)
- Created date (activity date) and available-on date
- Payment method type and card brand
- Connected Account ID (your account's Stripe identifier)
- Filter by reporting category (charges, payouts, refunds, etc.) to narrow the dataset before exporting.
- Export as CSV — recommended for large datasets; suitable for direct import into accounting systems (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, etc.).
- Supports All currencies export to pull multi-currency data in a single download.
5.3 Payout Reconciliation Report
The Payout Reconciliation report answers: "Which specific transactions made up the bank deposit I received on [date]?" It is the essential tool for reconciling your Stripe payouts against your bank statement.
The report contains four sub-views:
- Balance Summary — Opening and closing balance for the period, with category totals.
- Payout Reconciliation Summary — Each payout broken down by its contributing categories: charges, refunds, fees, and adjustments.
- Failed Payouts Summary — Any payouts that failed or were reversed, including the reason.
- Ending Balance Reconciliation — Transactions not yet included in a payout (still in your Stripe balance), so you know exactly what is still pending.
How to use it:
- Go to Reports → Payout Reconciliation.
- Set the date range to match the bank deposit(s) you are reconciling.
- Match the Net payout total in Stripe to the deposit amount on your bank statement — they should agree exactly (in the same currency).
- Expand any individual payout to see every charge, refund, and fee that made up that deposit amount.
- Export as CSV (for detailed analysis) or PDF (for reference/archiving).
💡 Data freshness: Payout Reconciliation reports are computed for complete calendar days. Data for the previous day's activity is typically available by the following morning (within ~12 hours of day-end). For accurate reconciliation, always run reports after the calendar day has fully closed.
5.4 Report Settings & Options
- Access report settings from Reports → Report options: Timezone — Choose UTC or your local timezone for all report timestamps. We recommend choosing one timezone and using it consistently across all reports to avoid date-boundary discrepancies at month-end.
- Reporting API — For automated workflows, you can generate and download all financial reports programmatically using Stripe's Reporting API. See docs.stripe.com/reports/api.
8. Exporting Your Data — Quick Reference
Every major data set in the Stripe Dashboard can be exported. Here is a quick-reference summary:

Large exports: For exports exceeding a few thousand rows, Stripe queues the export in the background and emails you a download link when ready. For very large or recurring datasets, consider using the Stripe Reporting API to automate and schedule downloads programmatically.
9. Reporting Best Practices
Monthly financial close
- On the first day of the month, run a Balance Summary for the prior calendar month to get your opening balance, category totals, and closing balance.
- Export the Balance Change from Activity (Itemized) CSV for the same period and import it into your accounting system for journal entries.
- Use a consistent timezone setting (UTC recommended) across all reports to avoid date-boundary discrepancies at month-end.
- Reconcile your closing Stripe balance against your internal records to catch any timing differences.
Bank reconciliation
- On receipt of your bank statement, note the Stripe deposit date(s) and amount(s).
- Run the Payout Reconciliation report filtered to those payout dates.
- Match the Net payout total in Stripe to each bank deposit — they should agree exactly.
- For any discrepancy, check the Failed Payouts Summary sub-view and the Ending Balance Reconciliation view in the same report.
General tips
- Stripe reports refresh for complete calendar days. Yesterday's data is typically available by ~8–10am the following morning.
- Use Payments for day-to-day transaction lookups; use Reports for period-end accounting tasks. The two sections serve different purposes.
- If your Balance Summary closing balance does not match what you see on the Balance page, check whether you are comparing the same timezone and whether any transactions occurred in the hour after your report period ended.
- Save your most-used Sigma queries and schedule them to run automatically — this saves significant time at period-end.
- Invite your accountant as a Read-only or Analyst team member so they can access reports directly without needing your login credentials (Settings → Team and security → Invite team member).
