Label printer troubleshooting

Step 1: Check your Printer:

  • Check the label printer is switched on, the light is green and not flashing red. Flashing red light indicates the printer is in an error state.
  • Press the 'label feed' button by the green light and a single blank label should feed through.
  • Turn printer off using the power switch at the back of the printer, wait 10 seconds and switch it back on.

Step 2: Check your Cables:

  • If the green light is not on, check the power cable.
  • Check USB Cable: Follow the cable from the back of the printer to the USB port on your computer and make sure everything is firmly plugged in.

Step 3: Check your Internet/Supplier Portal Connection:

  • Check that you have internet access. If not, please talk to your IT staff about your internet connection.
  • The username and/or password for your school-based Proxy Server may have changed.
Talk to your IT staff if you are receiving a ‘proxy’ error message.

Step 4: Clear Print Queue

  1. Clear the print queue by restarting the computer or manually deleting any pending print jobs from the printer settings. This can resolve issues where labels are repeatedly printing or failing to print.

Step 5: Check the Printer Settings:

    Supplier Portal

    • Ensure the TSC printer is selected.
    • Ensure paper size is 2 x 4 inches (50.8 x 101.6 mm).
    • Ensure margins and scale are set to Default.

    Windows Printer Settings

    • Open Printers & Scanners.
    • Select the TSC printer.
    • Open Printing Preferences.
    • Confirm the paper size is 2 x 4 inches (50.8 x 101.6 mm) and that scaling is set to 'Default'

Step 6: Check Alignment Issues (TSC 225 Model)

    1. Open the printer lid.

    2. Locate the gap sensor (blue/green piece near the front of the printer (underneath where the labels feed through).

    • Ensure the gap sensor is centered. Sometimes it may have shifted during label replacement.

    • If misaligned, gently push it back to the center

Step 7: Factory Reset (if printer is in error state/flashing red light)

    1. Turn the printer off using the switch on the back. Hold the circle "FEED" button down on the lid.
    2. Turn back on, keeping "FEED" button held down. The printer LED will sequence: orange and then red, when the light flashes red - take your finger off the front FEED button on the fifth red flash
    3. The printer will slowly print out some diagnostics labels to confirm the factory reset. Multiple tries may be necessary to learn the sequence/ best timing.
    4.  Once the reset is complete, turn the printer off and back on again to exit dump mode. Failure to do this may result in labels printing with unreadable characters.

Step 8: TSC Diagnostic tool (Windows Only)

If your TSC label printer continues to not print correctly, is printing on multiple labels, or not detecting labels properly, you can reset and recalibrate the printer using the TSC Diagnostic Tool.

     https://www.theprinterplace.com/tsc/drivers/DiagTool_V163.zip  - Diagnostic tool download.
Please note: The TSC Diagnostic Tool is a Windows application (.exe). If you are using a Mac, this tool may not be available.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Open the TSC Diagnostic Tool and ensure the printer is connected via USB.
    2. Click Get Status and check that the printer shows Ready.
    3.  Click Factory Default and wait for the printer to restart.
    4.  Once the printer is ready again, click Calibrate Sensor
    5. Click Print Test Page to confirm the printer is working correctly.
    6.  If the test page prints successfully, return to the Supplier Portal and try printing labels again.

If the test page does not print correctly, proceed to the driver reinstallation steps below or contact Support.

Step 9: Uninstall and reinstall the TSC printer drivers

If the printer continues to malfunction please reach out to our support team for further assistance here .

    Tips!

    • TSC printers are thermal printers and do not use ink. If prints are faint or missing, check for obstructions or residue on the thermal strip.

    • If labels feed incorrectly or jam, inspect the feeder for damage.

    •  If labels print across multiple labels or stop in the wrong position after changing label rolls, running a sensor calibration through the TSC Diagnostic Tool can often resolve the issue
