Add shop closures for holidays and breaks
Block out dates when nobody is packing so parents see a realistic packed-from date
Closures are the holidays, breaks and pupil-free days when nobody is packing. Adding them stops Shop promising a packing date that falls inside a closure.
Before you start
- You need the Shop Manager role.
- Set your packing days first. Packing resumes on your next packing day after each closure. See Set packing days and cut-off times.
- Go to Settings › Online ordering and open the Closures tab.
Add a closure
- Select Add closure.
- Enter a Title. Parents can see this, so use something they'll recognise, such as "Summer holidays".
- Choose a Start date and an End date. For a single day, use the same date for both.
- Select Save.
A message confirms the closure was added and tells you when packing resumes, for example "Packing resumes Mon 2 Feb".
The end date must be on or after the start date. Both dates count as closed days.
Edit or delete a closure
- Edit: select Edit on an upcoming closure, change the title or dates, then select Save.
- Delete: select the bin icon on an upcoming closure, then Delete closure. This can't be undone.
Closures are listed under Upcoming, soonest first. Each one shows the date range and when packing resumes. Once a closure has ended it moves to Past. Past closures are for reference only, so you can't edit or delete them.
How closures change what parents see
Ordering stays open 24 hours a day, even during a closure. Parents can still place orders. What changes is the promised date:
- Shop finds your next packing day as usual.
- If that day falls inside a closure, Shop skips it and every other closed day, and uses the first packing day after the closure.
Parents then see an amber banner at checkout, for example: "Orders packed from Mon 2 Feb. Shop is closed until Sun 1 Feb for Summer holidays. You can still order now, packing starts again Mon 2 Feb."
Good to know
- A closure only matters if it covers a packing day. If you only pack on Tuesdays, a closure from Wednesday to Friday changes nothing, and parents don't see a closure message.
- If closures overlap or run back to back, Shop keeps moving forward until it finds an open packing day. The banner names only the last closure that delayed the date.
- Orders still land on your To pack list straight away. You can pack during a closure if you want to.
