Attach add-ons to products
Choose which products offer an add-on, and whether it's required or optional
An add-on only appears for a product once you attach it. You can attach from the add-on itself (good when many products share it) or from a product's own page. Both use the same link, so a change in one shows in the other.
Before you start
- Create the add-on first.
- You need the Shop Manager role.
Attach from the add-on library
- Open Catalogue › Add-ons.
- On the add-on's card, choose Attach products. If it's already attached to some products, the button reads Manage products instead.
- In the dialog, use Search products to find a product by name. The list shows each product's image and price.
- Tick the product's checkbox. A Required / Optional switch appears on the row.
- Choose Required if customers must complete this add-on for that product. Leave Optional if they can skip it.
- Repeat for every product that should offer the add-on.
- Choose Attach to N products (or Save when managing).
To remove the add-on from a product, open Manage products, untick the product and choose Save. A message confirms each removal.
Attach from a product's page
- Open Catalogue › Products and open a Standard or Multi-variant product (or create one).
- Scroll to Add ons (optional).
- Click Search your add-on library… and pick an add-on. Add-ons already on the product aren't offered again.
- Use the Optional and Required switch on each add-on.
- Drag the handle (Reorder) to set the order customers see them. The hint Drag to reorder sits under the list.
- To remove one, select × and confirm Remove. Customers won't see it at checkout, and you can attach it again later.
- Save the product.
On an archived product, this section is read-only.
Required or optional
The Required setting belongs to the link between one product and one add-on, not to the add-on. The same embroidery add-on can be required on a tie and optional on a scarf. Newly attached add-ons start as Optional.
A customer can't add an item to their cart until they've filled in all of its required add-ons.
Good to know
- Add-ons attached from the library go to the end of each product's list. Reorder them on the product's page.
- Bundles don't have their own Add ons section. If an item inside a bundle has add-ons, customers choose them for that item when they buy the bundle. See Create a product bundle.
- Duplicating a product copies its add-ons. Duplicating an add-on copies its product links.
- Deleting an add-on removes it from every product it was attached to.
