Create a standard product
Add a single-option item, such as a tie or a hat, to your shop
A standard product has one price and one SKU, like a school tie. If your item comes in sizes or colours, use Create a multi-variant product instead.
Before you start
- You need the Shop Manager role. See Store Portal roles and access.
- Create the collection (for example "Accessories") first if you want the product to be visible on your storefront. See Create and manage collections.
Add the product
- Go to Products and select New product.
- Under Type, leave Standard product ("One price, one SKU.") selected.
- Under Details, enter a Product name (required) and a Description.
- Open Collections and choose one or more. A product that isn't in an active collection can't be found by shoppers.
- If you have a size guide or spec sheet, add it under Attachment. See Add product images and a size guide.
- Under Media (optional), select Add images to upload up to 6 photos.
- Under Pricing, enter the Price (required) and, if you like, your Cost of goods. The Margin updates as you type. Leave This price includes tax ticked if your price already includes tax. See Set prices, cost and profit margin and Set up tax on products.
- Under Identity, leave SKU blank to have one assigned, and add any Barcodes. See SKUs, barcodes and manufacturers.
- Under Inventory, switch on Track inventory to count stock. Enter Stock on hand (required when tracking) and, optionally, Low stock alert at. Switch on Preorder if customers can keep ordering when you run out, and add an Availability message such as "Stock expected Term 3".
- Under Add ons (optional), attach any extras from your add-on library.
Save or publish
- Select Save Draft, then confirm Save Draft. The product is saved but hidden from customers.
- Select Publish, then confirm Publish. The product goes live for customers.
If the product isn't in a collection, you'll be asked Publish without a collection? Select Publish anyway to publish it now. It stays hidden from shoppers until you add it to a collection.
After saving, you return to Products and the new product appears at the top of the list.
Edit the product later
- On Products, open the product from its row.
- Make your changes.
- For a Draft, select Save Draft or Publish. If you've changed anything, save the draft before you publish.
- For a Published product, select Save changes. Customers see your changes straight away.
Good to know
- To save a draft you need a Product name and a Price. A price of $0 is allowed.
- To publish you need a Product name and a Price. A blank price shows "Price is required".
- Stock on hand locks once a tracked product is published. To change it afterwards, use an inventory adjustment. See Product status and visibility for how status affects editing.
- Switching a product with variants back to Standard product, or switching away from Bundle, asks you to confirm because some of your setup is removed.
- Leaving the page with unsaved changes prompts you to keep editing or discard them.
