Configure FlexiPOS payment and receipt settings

Choose which payment buttons, student card scanning and receipts each FlexiPOS terminal uses

FlexiPOS has a few settings that change how a Shop order works at the counter: which payment buttons appear, whether staff can scan a student card, and what happens with receipts. This article covers each one.

Before you start

  • These settings are on the FlexiPOS tablet while it's in Shop mode. They're not in the Store Portal.
  • Each setting applies to that terminal only. If you have more than one terminal, set each one up.
  • Open Settings from the FlexiPOS menu, then pick a tab at the top of the page.

Choose payment buttons (Payments tab)

  1. Open Settings › Payments.
  2. Turn EFTPOS and Cash on or off. A button appears on the payment pad only while its switch is on. Both start on.
  3. To take card payments, turn EFTPOS on. FlexiPOS goes straight to Stripe set-up. There's no choice of provider. Once connected, the tab shows "Connected with Stripe". Turning EFTPOS off disconnects the card reader.
  4. Under Other Tenders, turn your own tenders on or off. Select Add other payment tenders to add one (up to six). Each has Edit and Remove options.

The payment pad can show Student Card, EFTPOS, Cash and Other tenders. Student Card always shows. Other tenders only shows while at least one custom tender is switched on. Shop doesn't show the "Print Customer Receipt" switch that you may know from canteen.

Turn student card scanning on or off (Student Card tab)

  1. Open Settings › Student Card.
  2. Turn Student Card Scanner in Cart on or off.

When it's on, the cart shows a Scan Student Card button so staff can attach a student to the order. When it's off, the button is hidden. It starts on. On the same tab you can pick the Scan Mode (Barcode or RFID), Default Scan Method and, for barcode scanning, which Device Camera to use. Test card scanning lets you check a card works. See Attach a student or guest to an order.

Choose email receipt behaviour (Shop Settings tab)

  1. Open Settings › Shop Settings.
  2. Under Email receipt preference, choose one:
Choice At checkout
Always Staff must enter the customer's email. The dialog is titled "Email receipt required" and can't be skipped.
Prompt Staff are asked for an email but can select Skip.
Never Staff are never asked.

The setting starts on Always.

The email prompt is for guest customers. It doesn't appear when a student is already attached to the order, or when the customer pays with the student card. Their receipt goes to the parent's email on file. Orders that include preorder items always ask for an email and can't be skipped, whatever you choose, so you can contact the customer later.

Choose printed receipts (Receipt Printing tab)

  1. Open Settings › Receipt Printing.
  2. Under Printer preference, choose Never, Prompt or Always.
  3. If you choose Prompt or Always, select Setup Printer to connect a receipt printer.

With Prompt, the order complete screen shows a Print receipt button. With Always, the receipt prints by itself. With Never, nothing prints. See FlexiPOS receipts.

Good to know

  • Changes take effect straight away on that terminal. You don't need to reinstall or restart.
  • A terminal that has never been configured shows Cash and EFTPOS, scanning on, and email receipts set to Always, but printing set to Never.
  • For taking payments, see Take payment in FlexiPOS.
